HomeThings To Do on 30A30A AttractionsPoint Washington State Forest

Make your next escape to the year-round sun and warmth with a visit to Florida. Many visitors plan plenty of beach time, hiking, biking, and other time in the sun. Slow down and spend some time getting to know the outdoor environment of Southwest Florida with a visit to Point Washington State Forest. The over 15,000-acre forest is located in the southernmost portion of Walton County on U.S. Highway 98. The beach is open for day-use and camping year-round. Call 877-879-3859 for more information.

Natural Features

Point Washington State Forest is made up of ten unique natural communities. The major of the area features sandhill, basin swamps/titi trains, wet flatwoods, wet prairie, and cypress swamps. It is also the home of threatened and endangered species of plants, including the white-topped pitcher plant and the world’s largest population of Curtiss sandgrass.

Pets

Domestic pets are allowed to join you at the beach and day-use areas of all Florida state parks. Leash laws are enforced, and you’re asked to pick up after your pet. Pets are not permitted on beaches, playgrounds, bathing areas, cabins and cabin areas, park buildings, or concession facilities, so plan your visit accordingly.

Wildlife

The forest is home to many species of wildlife, including rare, threatened, and endangered species such as American kestrel, gopher tortoise, and flatwoods salamander.

Land Activities

The forest is widely used for hunting (season and game limits apply), off-road biking, and hiking, but you can definitely enjoy a nature walk on 30A’s most beautiful forest. Explore the Eastern Lake Trail System accessed by County Road 395, a system of three double-track loop trails creating a 3.5-, 5-, or 10-mile trail. Currently under development, a new 27-mile greenway trail system will connect to popular Grayton Beach and Deer Lake State Parks, Topsail Hill State Preserve, Butler Elementary School, and nearby residential neighborhoods.
